this house has people in it

Welcome to Groundhogs Day where it’s Monday in 2020 again and nothing has changed.

I actually do have quite a bit of content to share today though. Let’s start with random stuff from the past week.

First up, we got our ruggable!

I really love it! It’s going in our bedroom at the foot of our bed, and this week we’re going to go pick out paint to repaint the bedroom using colours from the rug. Using the natural white for 3 of the walls and that blue tone for an accent wall behind our bed. I’m excited. So ready to get rid of all the pale green and yellow in this house LOL

Here it is in the bedroom, I’m hoping to eventually get a new fan/light fixture in here or at least some less yellow lighting.

I decorated for Halloween yesterday which brought me a small dose of serotonin. The mantle is really cute. I haven’t taken a pic yet because I didn’t have batteries for the lights. Putting the outdoor stuff up this weekend so I’ll take some pics then.

Project News:
Arwen’s sequins finally showed up! As soon as I finish slogging through the dressform pics (more on that in a minute) I can get back to beading these things. That’s where the bulk of the work is left on this costume.

In other news, Saturday morning laying in bed I realized that October is this week and if I wanted to make what I was planning for Halloween, I’d better get my fabric ordered ASAP. So I got up, shopped for fabric and got most everything ordered.

What am I making? Here’s a hint:

If you need another hint, this Halloween is the 20th anniversary of this costume:

Yep I am diving in and making an entirely new Sailor Jupiter. Not reusing anything, because I’m specifically making the Shining Moon Tokyo version with sequin fabric. The green taffeta I ordered is just for lining.

I also decided I wanted to trrrrrrry making the suit out of neoprene/scuba fabric. I’ve never used it before, but mom got some for her Star Trek Discovery uniform and I really liked it, so I thought it might offer a neat, smooth fuku look. We’ll see when it gets here. My backup is the power mesh there – I’ll just go get some matte white spandex if the neoprene doesn’t work out and line it in power mesh. Once again trying something new – I’ve never used power mesh but I’ve heard good things about it from other cosplayers so I wanted to order some and see what it was like. (Plus the $7 worth of power mesh pushed me into free shipping soooo)

I’ve got to talk to Chase about 3d printing the accessories. Order some gloves and some boots. I haven’t really done any of that/given it much thought beyond fabric.

Anyway, I’ll talk about it more later once fabric gets here and I start making stuff.

White Backdrop Shoot!
I FINALLY Have the rest of the backdrop photos uploaded, including the pick-up shots from when we redid Misato/Tinkerbell weekend before last.

Annnd finally got the Queen Amidala pics from the original shoot uploaded also:

All of the portfolio pages have been updated with my favs of the new pics.

And nowwwwwwww first round of dressform pics.
So the dressform pics are what has taken so long. I never imagined that my “dragoncon weekend project” would end up eating up all of my free time the rest of the month!! But each one takes so long to clean up… with each one I start by trying to fix the exposure (a lot of them were really dark), then trying to fix the white balance. I focus on just trying to get it correct on the costume no matter what it does to the backdrop – the backdrop often goes green or blue when I do that, so then I have to carefully select the entire backdrop and desaturate it. That’s what takes the longest. Then clean up the floor boards (marks, the place where I set the iron down and left a burn mark, and in a lot of them the 2 boards are scooting apart which looks awful). It’s just taking forever. I’m finally through 2010 PLUS a few newer non-dragoncon costumes, so halfway there.
